Data Sources, Licences and Attribution
Sources used by the local fixture and planned for the full RadioMap catalogue, map and place enrichment.
Station catalogue
Radio Browser is the primary catalogue source. Its official API documentation permits use in free and non-free software and permits mirroring its data. RadioMap therefore downloads a bounded snapshot at build time instead of querying Radio Browser for each visitor.
The catalogue is community-provided and can be incomplete or wrong. Radio Browser's metadata permission does not grant RadioMap rights in a station's audio, logo, trademark or programming.
Map
The local validation build uses MapLibre GL JS with OpenFreeMap. Required attribution is OpenFreeMap, © OpenMapTiles and data from © OpenStreetMap contributors.
Place and time
The validated offline fixture includes bounded place and timezone enrichment. Full production enrichment may use GeoNames under Creative Commons Attribution and timezone boundaries derived from OpenStreetMap data under the Open Database Licence.
Current state
The noindex staging preview uses a bounded, validated static snapshot of geolocated stations with HTTPS stream URLs. Production activation, the custom domain, advertising and any claim of blanket station-audio rights remain disabled pending qualified legal review and release approval.
Podcast catalogue and country collections
Podcast metadata comes from Podcast Index’s published open SQLite catalogue and Podcasting 2.0 location dataset. Podcast Index explicitly makes these public datasets free to mirror and use and recommends bulk exports instead of live API scraping. Source: https://podcastindex.org/datasets. RadioMap builds a bounded static selection locally; browsing does not call the Podcast Index API.
Country membership uses explicit country codes in publisher-supplied location tags. Creator locations are labelled “Made here”; subject locations are labelled “About here”. Language alone never determines a country. Missing, incorrect or incomplete source metadata can limit coverage.
Green navigation points use a central point on the main landmass from Natural Earth’s public-domain country boundaries. They represent collections, not recording addresses.
